‘FUTURE FORECAST’
Finding & Developing Opportunities
Building an Enterprising Localised Economy
🔍 Where is our country at? [ New Zealand ]
🔍 Where is Southland at?
🔍 Where is Riverton at?
🔍 Where is Invercargill at?
🔍 Where is the town that you came from at?
🔍 What resources do you have there?
What is the capacity in the short term, medium term & long term for that area [ that you live in town/area/region/country ]?
We need to actually take stock now, & think about:
🔍 Where is our country at? [ New Zealand ]
🔍 Where is Southland at?
🔍 Where is Riverton at?
🔍 Where is Invercargill at?
🔍 Where is the town that you came from at?
🔍 What resources do you have there?
🔍 What is the capacity in the short term, medium term & long term for that area [ that you live in town/area/region/country ]?
Just like when you do a business plan (which some of you in this room will be very savvy at), we write a financial forecast.
🔍 Where do we want to be in the short term, medium term & long term with our business?
🔍 How are we going to fund this financially?
🔍 What is our revenue model going to look like?
🔍 Who do we want to employ in the near future?
🔍 What kind of technology are we going to need?
🔍 How are we going to fund it?
🔍 What kind of products & services are we going to develop?
And you actually plan that in a business plan before it exists.
We ask ourselves –
💡 Who owns the businesses?
💡 Where do the resources come from?
💡 How does the money circulate?
💡 What is best for the community?
Basically do a heap of research & think –
💡 What business sectors do we have?
💡 What businesses do we have?
💡 How big is each market?
💡 Where are we growing?
💡 What is our future capacity?
💡 What kind of minerals do we have in the ground?
💡 What kind of fruits, vegetables or products could we grow?
💡 What kind of products could we develop?
Then what we do is we use these statistics & the research to draw a picture of what we want our futures to look like, & [those of] our children, & our children’s children.
What do we want their future to look like?
It sounds all very idealistic. But it’s actually quite an important thing to do; to stop & think..
Not just enough money to survive.
Not just thinking inside the paradigm of an employee.
🔍 What is the capacity of our economy that we would like to develop?
🔍 How will we grow that economy?
🔍 What new enterprises will we develop?
🔍 Which jobs will we link to the industries that we develop?
🔍 And how many [jobs]?
Okay, so if you are 12 years old & you are looking at your future, & you are thinking –
🔍 What will I do for a career? or 🔍 If I am going to build a business?
You need some kind of an informed perspective on what it is that is actually going to:
1. Create you a really good future.
2. That is going to fit with your Gifts \ Talents \ Passions \ Innate abilities.
3. Where there are actually opportunities.
This is the time now for us to think, short term, medium term & long term
– where are we going? And that’s why I call it the FUTURE FORECAST.
FUTURE FORECAST DEFINITION:
FUTURE FORECAST is about values, goals, & meeting local, regional, national & international consumption demands. To make a way forward, we need to understand existing infrastructure.
🧪 Where we come from
🧪 What businesses exist already
🧪 Who owns them
🧪 What they’re doing
We need to understand that there are opportunities that exist now, which may not exist in five year’s time – or they might not even exist in three months!
Because a lot of the stuff is actually being shut down & replaced by technology.
🎯 To come back & find opportunities.
🎯 Be very deliberate about setting up new products, services & trading.
🎯 Not just thinking about what we think we are capable of now (within our own means & looking at our bank accounts).
🎯 Be very deliberate about going out to network & connect.
🎯 Set out to build something that has got the right values, morals & principles behind it.
And then basically, storm towards setting it up
But it’s actually a big call. It’s a big call when we are in a society that’s actually moving towards a globalised economy, & potentially a one world dollar, & a surveillance based society.
🔍 How will we get there?
🔍 What opportunities are there?
🔍 On what scale do they exist?
🔍 What kind of projected opportunities do we want to develop?
When we can see where we are going
Then we will know what to go for.
What we need to do is:
🎯 Present a vision for where the opportunities will be.
🎯 Show market sizes & profit potential.
🎯 Demonstrate human consumption needs (as in, study other business that already exist in the world, even if they are an international corporation acting like a local business with a shop down the street).
🎯 Study that business & find out –
🔍 What services are they providing?
🔍 Where are they getting their resources from?
🔍 How do they function?
PERSPECTIVE
🚸 We need to be able to get the vision to provide something that is an alternative.
🚸 We need to actually set things up for a future generation.
🚸 As well as meet our own needs in the short term.
I am presenting to you the idea –
🟢 SHORT TERM: We have a look at the now.
🟢 MEDIUM TERM: We think, what’s going to happen in the next five years.
🟢 LONG TERM: After 15 year’s time, where can we take this?
That’s a big call, but – I will leave you with these thoughts here:
🎯 Let’s investigate the size of the industries.
🎯 Let’s decide what to focus on & develop.
🎯 Let’s find suitably fitting & rewarding opportunities.
🎯 We need to make a plan that can go well.
🟡 What about the ‘Cottage Industries’?
🟡 What about the small manufacturing stuff that I can do in my backyard?
🛑 I can only do a certain amount, & it doesn’t make any money.
🛑 I’ve tried the markets. I’ve tried selling things door to door.
And it’s cool – I might be able to make $1000 once every two months.
But what I am encouraging you to do right now is think about this:
FOR EXAMPLE:
Something that you might like to consider is –
🏁 You create a local product & serve your local people.
🏁 Then you create a niche product to serve an international market.
🏁 You document that – with film & photography, & writing. And you build an online course.
🏁 You teach other people to do what you have done in your own community.
🍀 Be okay with the idea that you might actually charge 5000 people $50 to learn how to do what you have done.
🍀 Be okay with taking that money, or the resources that come, & then to distribute them back inside your own system – to be able to make something that is actually going to truly thrive & prosper.
FOR EXAMPLE:
Lauren & I have been talking about building a registered kitchen that might be accessible to a community.
Then to make some kind of a niche, where we might be like:
🏁 Support people who are making fermented food products.
🏁 Build this commercial kitchen that can be booked.
🏁 So we develop kombucha, & we have yogurt, etc.
We have these different products which might not be for the same market – but it’s a shared facility.
🎯 Let’s build a FUTURE FORECAST
🏁 Let’s think about where we want to be in the short term, medium term & long term.
🏁 Let’s think about the resources that we have within our own reach.
🏁 Let’s also be okay with the idea that we are going to get access to new people, resources, & wisdom that we don’t currently have in our own circles.
Yip, anyway that’s all
Values & Vision
🟢 Think about the your local community, & build a new picture –
— bigger than my own needs,
— bigger than my family’s needs,
— bigger than my local community’s needs?
This is what I believe in:
